the following will make most people here's jaws fall flat on the ground, but
even Audi doesn't change the filter at every interval.  Unless you're doing
a lot of driving in very dusty or wet conditions, they'd probably recommend
just changing the oil, not the filter, until the next scheduled (covered)
interval.  Notice how Audi went back to the first interval at 5K, like it
used to be, instead of 10K like it was in 2001/2002?  I heard a rumor about
a lot of top end failures, especially on 1.8Ts.
Probably not a whole lot of places to buy the real deal (mahle or mann,
which is all I'd recommend) for much cheaper than the dealer's parts window
when you factor in shipping, unless you buy 'em by the half dozen.

as big a PITA as it is to get the filter off (due to the location), I can
see why they don't change it every time.
