I think to test the coil, you measure the resistance of the primary and 
secondary windings (go/no go).

You might want to get a timing light or something and measure the high 
tension lines.

The hall sender (on the dist) could be bad/have broken wires/etc.

The transistor driver for the coil could be bad, too, I suppose.
