I would recomend the 272 first, if this car is a daily driver. A friend of
mine put a 276 into his GTI, and killed its usefulness as a daily driver. At
less than 2200 or so, the car won't accelerate in anything other than first
and second. We also had to advance the timing to about 24 degrees initial,
and make the mixture a lot richer. It still won't idle below 1500RPM.

I'm considering getting a 272 or 276 cam for my '88 80 Quattro (daily
driver/track car).

I've heard these do not pass the idle portion of the smog test in
California.... I live in Washington, though. Do any of you Washington
types have any experience with this cam and its smogability?

Also, do any of you have either of these cams in your cars, and if so, how
do you like them for additional power?

Thanks!
