272, 276 cams

Many thanks to Alan, Greg, Tony, John and Jim for keeping this thread
going and sharing advice and interesting information.
It sounds like the 276 would be a little out of my league,
performance-wise. It sounds like the 272 _might_ be reasonable, with even
a possibility of passing emissions here. The reason I had brought up the
276 was because I had heard an opinion that both cams give the same
'really unpleasant' idle, so if you're going to upgrade you might as well
get the extra performance gain of the 276.
Basically, my '88 80Q has a pretty flat -- well, lame, actually --
acceleration from about 3000 or 3500 on up to the rev limiter.
Acceleration is so flat I could probably sing the Star Spangled Banner
three times in the duration it takes me to get to the end of the front
straight at Pacific Raceways. I'm getting kind of tired of that. I do need
to be able to drive on the street, in bumper-to-bumper traffic, and to
drive fairly nicely through malls, residential neighborhoods, and such.
I thought a cam upgrade would make sense....
Jim mentioned Blau, do you mean Blaufergnugen or a different Blau, and is
that a Blau or a Schrick? Are there other manufacturers of these cams, and
where do you get them?
Thanks again!
