Could the noise come from a stuck viscous (or thermostatic) coupling of
the engine cooling fan?
Regarding the windows, I "think" you can cure this behavior by "indexing"
the window's motors. You will do that by opening and closing completely
each one of them so the motors will _learn_ the upper and lower stopping
positions.

Jet engine revving for takeoff?
After the 60K service on my A62.8Q, I have an interesting
(and scary) new symptom. For about 30-60 seconds at cold start,
the car makes a sound like a jet engine revving for takeoff.
It's not the A/C, which was turned off, but sounds like it only
MUCH louder and faster. It seems to be coming from around the
air intake path. The air filter was replaced as part of the 60K.
Then it shut off while backing out of my driveway, kicked on
once again for a few seconds 300 yards down the road, and is
now off. It never happened yesterday when the car was warm.
Also, after my battery almost failed to start my car yesterday,
the one-touch up/down on my windows now works intermittently at
best. The windows work OK, just have to hold the button sometimes.
