Type 85 Combination (combi) Switch Removal?

Hi everyone!

Per Bob Bentley's instructions, I'm working on removing the lower dash shelf 
below the instrument cluster, in order to remove the steering column covers 
(See Fig. 1, Page 48.4 in Bob's "Official Factory Repair Manual").

Picture on Page 70.10 of Bob's manual suggests that I "...pull shelf panel B 
slightly on left and remove in direction of arrow B."

My "shelf panel B" still seems to be attached near the center console, 
though.

Am I doing something wrong, other than not "...pulling shelf panel B 
slightly" enough?

Pleases don't tell me to "...pull shelf panel B slightly" harder, as I'm 
afraid of breaking something....
