2 generic questions... and a funny PS:

I know it’s not my best week (regarding audi-content on the list) but at
least my questions/comments are VAG related. And it screams that my
urQuattro is dead-reliable now…
Anyhow, if somebody thinks I should ask these questions elsewhere, I will
(wink, wink…).
1 – How do you re-temper the tip of a punch? I have some nice nail-pushers,
punches, screwdrivers and various things that you blow with an hammer, but
many are broken/worn/bent.
I also have a bench grinder (nice tool to regrind the tips) and a set of
torches. I thought that heating the tip _white hot_ and then cooling it in
water would be OK, but the tip is still too soft to my taste.
So if there’s any good advice for re-commissioning a broken punch or
screwdriver, I would like to know it.
2 - On the GF’s VW Cabrio, the (1998, OEM) battery was almost empty. I had
to remove it to get access to the washer pump, and then after the car would
not start. Checked the voltage: less than 10V. Checked the water level:
can’t see it! So, if the car was starting and going fine before the battery
removal, how come the battery would be dead just by removing it from the
car? And, if I replenished the water level last year, how could the battery
be so empty less than 1 year later? Somebody stole it? Montreal is not
_that_hot_, and rather humid in 2004… This summer, people don’t tan: they
rust.
Thanks in advance, and sorry for the WOB, if such a thing still exists.

1983 urQuattro, doing just fine, so, maybe she cursed the VW!
PS: At my new work, we just hired an older guy, as a tech writer. I was
still evaluating him (is he good? Is he too old? That kind of questions…)
when he kinda auto-evaluated himself.
When I told him to cut-and-paste a specific part of a text, he told me: -
OK, now that I have placed the text “in my mouse” (…literally!!!), what
should I do next?
That’s the cutest thing I’ve heard from an adult in a long time!
