Or get to its connectors under the back seat...

The fuel pump only gets power while the engine is running - the relay 
turns it off if there are no coil pulses (the reason it often runs a few 
seconds at "turn on" is due to a spurious coil pulse at that time)

They can be an amazing mess down there, yes... although I'm glad our 
fuel pumps aren't in the tank, I wish the filters were under the hood.
