File the paperwork, send in the fee (yes YOU have to pay to file a
claim), they'll cash your check, send the claim to "legal" and you'll
never hear from anyone again unless you take them to court, where of
course you'll have to PAY again to file the action. I had a tree branch
fall on my 5KS about 2 (maybe 3, it's been so long) years ago, filed
claim with City of Boston at the time and just let it go, wasn't worth
the effort or my time. YMMV since this was not the State.
And, if you do win in court (as a friend on mine did in a case similar to
yours), actually trying to collect the judgement is where the fun really
begins.
