Hi!

I'm looking at photographs of a 2000 A6 gearbox and trying to remember how
it compares to that I have from a 1980 Audi coupe (an 016 UW which is
destined for my 1990 Audi 200).

At first glance the casings look near identical. They're both front-wheel
drive gearboxes.

Does anyone know the major differences between the outer bits of these
transmissions? Not sure of the transmission code, but I'd ventre to say it
was an 01E perhaps.

I'm concerned about speedometer cable location, difference in linkages,
difference in mounting bolts and the location of them (once again, at first
glance, they seem to be located in the same position).

Oh yes, the 2000 model transmission is from a 2.5 TDI A6.

Internally I would just assume I could swap cogs between the 2
transmissions, but that's just my wishful thinking with regards to Audi's
parts bin usage approach. :D
