I have a 98 A6 wagon. Essentially a 97 that was carried over to 98 because
they didnt get the new style wagon out in time. We had our tranny go bad at
92000 miles. Thankfully we had an extended warranty that paid for the whole
thing but it would have cost us about $3000 for the rebuild.
As I pulled up to the transmission shop a 98 A6 wagon (a clone of mine,
color and everything) was being towed in. Same miles FWIW. So I would
build in about $3000 for a 100,000 mile car for a potential tranny.
