Yep, that's part of the reason I think the sport Quattro won that round, AWD
and relatively low weight.  The corvette with vast power and rwd simply
could not get the power down (this was not on a drag strip), while the mk3
golf with 2 vr6 engines would make a similar amount of power to the sq also
with awd (or perhaps more accurately 4wd, dunno, cant fathom that since the
2 axles are not connected) but obviously carrying a lot more weight came
3rd....
Of course the real surprise to me was the Quattro/chevvy hybrid in 4th,
again too much power I guess to get a good time.

You need to add weight into the equation... I guarantee if you were to 
try out a Caterham Superlight with its lowly 170hp in a 1600 lb package 
you would probably be amazed. It blows off Corvettes with ease...
