There are two "wear" items, broadly speaking (in the 90Q, they are, as I 
recall, exactly two parts.  In other cars there are sometimes several 
parts making up one or both of them).  One is the (usually) plastic 
bearing that the shift lever itself pivots in.  These can eventually 
completely break, letting the lever flop around.  The other "item" is 
the various lever and pivots used to get the motion from the shift lever 
to the transmission "input."
