K&N filters bad?

Those of us in the British car community strongly discourage the use of
foam air filters on our cars, for just the reason you describe, Brady.
There have been instances of cars burning due to a back-fire (much more
prevalent on old English iron than contemporary Audi iron) setting the
foam on fire.
