still with the cis issues 87 cgt

Should be a quick and easy question...
Ok the car runs well, but there it still has a hard time with cold start. ie 
it almost starts but doesn't. cranks, bumps a couple times,cranks some more, 
almost catches,cranks some more.....
Here's the question, I replaced the lower temp sender(2 pin white connector) 
in the water-neck off the head. Is this one and the same as the infamous 
"thermotime"which is supposed to control cold start enrichment? me thinks 
yes, correct?
If not is it the upper temp sender(2 pin black conn)?
if it isn't that, where the heck is it(and what does the black one do while 
i'm on it..gauge maybe)?!!! I looked in my bentley about a hundred times and 
either the bently isn't clear or I'm an idiot and keep skipping right past 
it.  Hmmm.... Maybe i should just rig in a spare momentary switch to the csv 
and eliminate the whole stinking mess......
