Eating alternators...

I replaced the alternator on my 5k with a reman 90 amp bosch unit and
within a month it was failing. I could have replaced it again for free
under waranteed, but I found that they had simply cross-threaded one of
the screws on the regulator so it was never tight enough. I ended up using
the screws from the original which were slightly longer and much higher
quality. You might want to check those connections. There is also the
possibility that the core that was refurbished had bad windings and the
paint job they gave it was enough to keep it alive for a little while.
