Drew MacPherson <drew at scirocco.cs.uoguelph.ca> asked:

The discussion about 4K headlights begs the question is it possible to
take the early type 44 4x6 buckets and trim and install them in an '89
200? I thought I recalled seeing a picture of this somewhere, but of
course, I can't find it now that I'm looking for it.

Drew, you're home free. All headlights can be interchanged across all the
5K/100/200 series at least 1984 through 1990. The noses of the cars are the
same. I know because I've done a swap of slant-sided lights from an 84 5K
into a 1990 200 - and vice versa. As long as you change headlights, grille
and side lights as a complete assembly, the swap is a bolt-in both ways. If
memory serves (been about 7 years) all bolt holes, etc. are in the right
places. The only mod needed is to change the wiring connectors as needed to
connect sidelight A vs B.

One caution: the side lights have tabs to snap together with the headlight
carriers and don't always interchange. You need to check the side lights and
make sure they snap onto the headlight assemblies. But if worst comes to
worst, you can go looking for a pair of old sidelights in a wrecking yard.

Go forth and make that swap!
