audi 4k engine cooling / interior heating issues

Hi Kevin.
Cooling light flashing- that is an indication of low coolent. The problem 
could be low coolant level in the overflow tank or the coolant level sensing 
unit is on the fritz. Of course corroded wires /  plug on the sensing unit 
could also be a cause.   The sending unit is a part of  the overflow tank 
lid.

Heat from side vents- you probably need a new heater control valve. This is 
a  common problem on these cars. The valve is located in between the back of 
the head and the firewall and is controlled by a cable that runs to your 
heat selection lever.
