tool question

If I may chime in...
For the DIYer I recommend Craftsman or Proto. Craftsman has a professional
grade now which is still not top notch but plenty good enough.
Proto is a step above Craftsman and is priced accordingly. Snap-On is just
plain out of the question unless you have a huge budget. A set of 1/4"
drive deepwell sockets (about 11 to the set) runs almost $200. Great tools
but not worth it unless you are a pro IMO. MAC are about the same.
Best value is probably one of those Craftsman sets with like 200 tolls for
$199. That will give you a decent base to work from. Then add Proto or
other high end tools as you see fit. If you already have a good base, go
for the Proto.
The particular tools that should be of good quality are ratchets,
screwdrivers and sockets (in that order). A high quality fine tooth ratchet
is the greatest friend a mechanic can have. Wobble extensions are also a
great investment, sorry starting to ramble...
