On both my '89 200Q and my '84 4000SQ, the valet key had
the same cut, the key was just thicker so that it wouldn't fit in
the slot for the glovebox or trunk locks. I hardly felt it was
a security feature at all. Anyway, if the car is old enough for an
external cut key, you CAN cut a new key from the valet key
(BTDT).
