I've been using the Quatech PCMCIA-serial adapter recommended by Ross-Tech.
It works flawlessly with Hex-Com. I've not used it with other devices.
Still it can be a minor PITA. I must shut-down the laptop to install it.
And, since there is only one PCMCIA slot, I cannot have my wireless network
card installed while using VAG-COM. Which means I can't access on-line
resources while diagnosing.
With USB I could have as many devices installed as I could find use for.
