I think so.  I just did this, and it was confusingly frustrating for a 
little bit.  The new brushes tend to have squared-off ends, which don't 
make much/enough contact with the (round) commutator.  A bit of 
wearing-in (and swearing in, double checking, etc.), and it kicked in 
and started working fine.
