I pondered a similar thought with those factoryfive kit cars you see in the 
auto magazines.

Would I loose "points" skipping the Mustang drivetrain for a german AWD one? 
TWin turbo V8 or AAN
Certainly would be the fastest lightest track gizmo.

I'm thinking an awd play car that will likely be a tube chassis creation 
like the Formula SAE cars many universities build each year.....only 
slightly larger and maybe seating for two.
