Where there's smoke there's fire? '91 80q

One time when I turned the ignition key to start the car today a very small
swirl of smoke came out from the hazard / wiper switch stalk area. Very
small, less than the size of a golf ball.
I have tried over and over to get this to happen again but with no success.
The one time it happened the seat heaters were turned on as well as the
interior fan set at position #2. Some have suggested a ignition switch going
bad but I would sure love to hear any input on this one. All electrical
items appear to be working properly with the exception of this mornings
incident and I would hate to see a 80q melt down.
