1.8T vs V6.. which is more reliable, more powerful, and lasts longer?

im considering a '98 up B5 Passat or Audi A4 ....which is "better"  the 1.8T 
or the V6?  

this is what i know so far - and correct me if i am wrong - :

'98-'00 1.8T  20v is 150 hp.
2001 - present 1.8T 20v is 170hp.

'98 up 2.8 V6 30v is 190hp. 


-drive-by-wire introduced in 2000
-GIAC/APR chips add about 50hp gain to the stock 1.8T
-V6 has oil leak problems?
-stay away from '96-'97 A4's?

anyway it looks like i will be looking at '98 up cars..
so which is a better engine? the 1.8T or the 2.8V6?

i dont want to spend more then $9500 so i most likely will be looking at 
'98-'00 models..anyone have one for sale? 
any help appreciated..
