Kelley Blue Book Value Approx.

BlueBook value is a complete joke.

It has no bearing on most of the cars that we're interested in.

For instance, I own an BMW E28 M5. There were 1200 of these made for North
America. The KBB people cant seem to tell that it's any different from a
535i, and as such, list the KBB at around $4500.

Boy, if only I could buy one for $4500! You are doing alright to get one
for $10k _over_ bluebook.

Nobody buys an E28 M5 unless they know exactly what they are getting and
exactly what they want. There are statistically speaking less than 20
examples per state (naturally the distribution is uneven, but just try and
put that in perspective..)

Some of the older Audi's are similar - they're low volume, and the people
that are interested in them know exactly why they're interested in them.
You can get the comparably high volume B5A4 2.8Q 5MTs for under $10k now; I
even saw one for $7k or so. The price difference between that and a much
older but rare/desirable I5 based car is not all that significant.

(As an aside, the n-1 generation of A8 are going in the teens and low 20s on
ebay now. The price is amazing for people that like the used market, and
awful if you paid 70k 4 years ago.)

KBB by and large has nothing to do with reality when you are considering
niche or low-volume vehicles.
