Kelley Blue Book Value Approx.

I bought one of those A8s from ebay. I've been pretty happy so far - it had
(has) a couple of leaky seals in the drivetrain, the steering wheel heater
and one power headrest are broken, but nothing that I was unprepared for.
And now the state of Pennsylvania is bugging me because KBB says I should
have paid 50% more for it than I did and they think I've robbed them of
their sales tax due.
I've noticed that super-luxe sedans tend to lose a lot of value in the
resale market when the mfr makes a major styling change. The status premium
disappears as soon as the other CEOs can tell you're not driving the latest
model. I saw this white Mercedes V12 with double-glazed windows that was a
real steal. Too bad I don't own the white suit and panama hat and patent
leather shoes, cane and gold tooth to match :(

BlueBook value is a complete joke.
It has no bearing on most of the cars that we're interested in.
...
(As an aside, the n-1 generation of A8 are going in the teens and low 20s on
ebay now. The price is amazing for people that like the used market, and
awful if you paid 70k 4 years ago.)
KBB by and large has nothing to do with reality when you are considering
niche or low-volume vehicles.
