Can be a nitemare to get out.
On my 90, which should be almost identiacal,
There are 2 bolts, on top and underneath the starter... the underneath one
is easy to get to between the subframe and dp iirc, and I think it has a nut
towards the front of the engine.
The upper one is horrible, you need to reach right down the back of the
engine with a 19? Mm spanner, I couldn't get a socket in there ;( there was
no nut on this one.
After that, just tap the motor till it pulls free.

Subject: 89 Audi 200 Turbo starter

Hi, We got a starter for my 89 Audi 200 Turbo Auto Non-Q and when my hubby
went to put it in he finds he cannot get the old one out . . . . is there a
trick to this or does he need a special tool? If so, where would be a good
place to get one. We are in Flagstaff, AZ, now :-) Cheers, Fay and
Jim
