Climate control question re: '87 5kTQ

The valves are plastic.  The PO probably replaced a plastic valve that
broke with a piece of pipe.  A/C won't turn on with the system set to
"econ".  But you might get cold air anyway because of a failure in the
system that controls the air flaps in the heater core box.  Check out the
