Ben-
I didn't know about all of the WRX trans failures- I'm not on NASIOC that often.
I know the automatic WRXes have a more sophisticated AWD system, but
who wants an automatic?!?
If I really needed a big cargo hauler, the Toyota Sienna AWD in its
current generation is definitely the one to get- you can't beat Toyota
reliability, usually.
You've got an exceptionally large wagon as it is- if you can keep it
running economically, then I don't think you can beat it without
dropping at least $22-24k on a used Sienna. And the Toyota is
definitely not going to give you the kind of fun-to-drive that the
Audi will.
Except for cargo capacity (which it really has none), I'm quite happy
with my WRX STi. I still need something like a Honda Element, CR-V,
minivan or wagon to haul stuff around. The STi is totally useless for
cargo, I might as well have bought the Z06, except I'd still need a
winter car.
Taka
