Bucket (solid) tappets

Speaking of solid llifters/tappets, I was wondering about some to replace
the hydro ones in my MC. I just bought brand spanking new ones when I built
up my new head with aftermarket (stuff as hell) valve springs and the Blau
cam, but they don't seem to be up to the task of running into high rev's for
anything other then brief periods of time. I usually shift arround 7250, but
my limiter is at 7500 which I do hit sometimes. In an acceleration run as an
example I can run to 7500 in first, then again in 2nd gear, but if I run up
to 7500 again in third the lifters will bleed out completely and start thier
clickety clack business for a few moments until they pump back up.

First off, are the older solid lifters compatible (MC1)? Second, this is a
stretch, but does anybody know of "performance" hydro lifters that pump up a
little stiffer? They seem to be the same as VW 8v motors (came from Worldpac
in a sealed packet of 8, then two more in a ziplock baggie heh), which is
not surprising at all knowing VAG's parts bin. I know there are tons of
hot-rodded VW 4cyl cars so maybe there is something made for them that I
could bennefit from.
