If by "good crimping tool" you mean a *ratcheting* crimper, then
you'll get a good crimp (one you cannot pull apart). I got mine
from MCM, Part No. 22-770:

Heat shrink wrapping will keep the connection cleaner longer, but
if the connection is inside the car, I wouldn't worry about it too
much.  If the connection is exposed to the elements (under the
hood), then you may want to consider sealing it with heat shrink
or electrical tape.
