I'm quite familiar with them.  They come with a red dye imbedded with them 
that shows when the sleeve is properly melted.  They also require a heat 
gun with a tip to flow heated air all around the sleeve.  They also require 
you to hold the sleeve still while you're melting the solder ring.  The 
ones that are adhesive lined yield a waterproof connection when done right 
and they are milspec rated.  AFAIK, they are not cheap to use.
