Saggy roof liner (Me too!)

Same problem here. I have toyed with the idea of just using magnets
to stick the cloth back up, but it takes a hell of a magnet to stick
securely through the fiberglass (or whatever it is).

The local recommended car upholsterer guessed over the phone that the
repair would be $400ish. That won't go very far towards my new
whatever-I-end-up-with, but it's something.

The Bentley claims that the roofliner can only be removed by
destroying it. True?

What function do the cloth and foam serve? Sound damping, probably.
Thermal insulation, almost certainly. If I just remove the cloth and
foam altogether, why will I be sad?

What I'm thinking is that if I pull down the fabric I will be able to
vacuum away all of the wretched orange foam. If I don't pull down all
of the fabric, then I have to scrape away some of the foam, and can
then re-glue the fabric in those areas, but the other areas will let
go soon and I'll have to do everything all over again.
