Will,
The 100 csq will most likely be more reliable
than the type 44 (based upon my friend's rather
happy experience with his 100 csqa vs. my 200Q),
however I'd carefully consider owning TWO vehicles
with over 200K miles. The C4 chassis is similar enough
to the type 44 that much should be familiar. So with the
exception of upper strut bearings (much better design, it
actually has camber control that amounts to more than
slop) chassis issues are the same, the V6 has mostly
oil leak issues in the valley pan gasket area. Climate control
is still suspect, but it is different from the type 44. Since the
C4 chassis is the basis of the UrS cars, you may want to
visit S-cars.org to get a heads up on the chassis, and interior
issues, and search the archives on the 2.8 V6. It's probably a
good thing that the car has the 5 sp, b/c the 4 sp auto seems to
have only a somewhat better rep than the 3 sp auto in the type 44,
although the one in my friend's car has been rock solid.
Drivingwise, the C4 chassis is somewhat heavier than the type 44,
but much more robust, so the handling is improved, although you
are hauling around 200+ pounds more than your 200Q. The extra
chassis stiffness also pays off in ride quality, as the suspension
actually works, rather than the chassis flexing. One other thing, the
extra wheel well width means you can go to MUCH more aggressive
tire combos than the type 44's, with the exception of the 20VT.
