Fuse boxes/auxiliary relays - a little O/T, but still VAG

Here is my tale of woe. I am dragging my '87 16V Scirocco out of an 11 year
hibernation. Here is what I don't have, low beams, horn, directionals, nor
right hand high beams.

After two days of acid dipping and wire brushing terminals, I had low beams
for a few minutes. That was not repeatable. After probing with test lights and
multimeters, I have determined (I hope correctly) that the problem is the
"internal connections: referred to in Bentley.

Not being convinced of the diagnosis, I picked up a used fuse box. Now, my
question. How do I separate the auxiliary relays from the box. It seems obvious
that they should "snap" off, but I cannot detect a release tab.

If anyone has any ideas of the meaning I get barely measurable voltage at the
lights. Less than one volt according to my meter. I have pulled the lighting
plug from the back of the box and shot it with contact cleaner. I have never
even gotten to checking the horn and directional circuits, but I did wire brush
(Dremel) the front terminals for the directionals. I do get the indicator
light on the dash. Initially, I was getting power at the light circuit fuses.
This was by test light, I forgot to measure the voltage.
