Are the 4K diff locks vacuum operated? It may just
be old hoses or bad vacuum pump.

What year is it?

www.edmunds.com says an '87 with 150K miles in average
condition is worth... $901.

I'd insult him with an offer of $1000, listing all the
problems and what it will cost to fix them. Or be a
bastard and offer him $750, then call him back in a
month. :)
