A8 trans filter

My friends recently purchased '99 A8 that had a transmission service from a
local dealer (Pasadena) last June. We have the receipts. The transmission
pan bolts don't seem to have been removed any time recently. I suspect the
trans has not been serviced, for sure the filter not replaced.

My question: Do the transmission filters have a manufacturing date on them?

If so, I'll bet double the cost of a trans service that the filter inside is
dated about 1998-1999.

Any help?
