Zen and the Art of Sunroof Adjustments

Hello all,

Once again I kneel before the oracles of the list. This time I'm  seeking help in adjusting/repairing the sunroof on my 84 4ksq.  The sunroof worked fine prior to removal for a paint job a while back.  Since re-installing it however, I've only been able to have the rear of the sunroof rise normally...the sunroof will not retract easily or consistently...at least not without "help".  I spent considerable time on the problem yesterday (completely removed, cleaned/lubricated and re-installed entire sunroof system) and deduced that the problem boils down to:


1. New weatherstripping that's too thick (it can't be pressed any tighter onto the sunroof ridge...and it's a genuine Audi part from my local stealership)

2. My inablility to correctly adjust the front hindge or rear sunroof heights...and believe me, I've tried many many combinations...and made minor scatches on the sunroof in the process!

...and the Bentley's of almost no help.

Any BTDT's?  TIA
