I too have a noisy pump, and have to order a new one next week. My
parts guy said that he has 2 listings for my car (87 5KT). It is the
type with the 3 tabs on it that hold it to the bottom of the tank. Does
anyone know what the difference in the 2 pumps may be? The part numbers
are 0 580 254 040, and 0 580 254 038 . the only thing that i know for
sure is that the prices are not the same.
any help would be greatly appreciated, so that i dont have to pull the
pump twice to do the same job.
thanks
brian (87 5KT)

Subject: Fuel pump remova/install question -1990 100q
I got my noisy fuel pump out.
Will be replacing it with a Pierberg pump.
The fuel pump holder does not look as described in my manual for this
model
and year.
It should look like this:
http://www.sjmautotechnik.com/trouble_shooting/fuelpump.htm#early200
But , it looks like this:
http://www.sjmautotechnik.com/trouble_shooting/fuelpump.htm#late200
The fuel pump was loose in its holder when I removed it.
According to the SJM instructions, the pump in its housing is supposed
to be
installed with the tool 3214, turn 1/2" to lock it in place. Also, the
tool
is supposed to be used to unlock the pump.
Question: Can I lock the pump in without this tool? Will my hand supply
enough force and torque to lock the pump into place?
