CV boot fix on 5kcstq

Your impressions are correct ... your ABS will not work without the toothed 
ring on the outer housing of the CVJ ... I don't know what the half shaft 
you received came from ... I'm pretty sure most 5kCSQs came with ABS.

I'm not sure I'd just slap a split boot on the old one and go ... it looks 
from your picture that the joint has been exposed for some time and may be 
conntaminated ... but it isn't clear.  If that is possible you may want to 
diasassemble and clean the guts ... looks like you have the Bentley to show 
you how this is done.  If you choose to go this way it isn't difficult to 
use the single piece boot.  I've never tried one of the split boots, but the 
front outer CV boots get a lot of exercise ... and you can see what it looks 
like when they fail.  I wonder how long a split boot is going to last in 
those conditions ...
