How well do 96 Cabriolets hold up?

Jim,

They are pretty good cars, with few problems. The key with most of the newer auto's in Audi's is changing the fluid. That goes for most european cars, though. The tops very rarely have problems, just don't put it up or down on a weak battery. Quite often affects the allignment for some reason. Other than that, they are about the same as a front drive V6 A4 of the same era.

BTW, not sure what the differences are, but if you are looking to replace the engine, you might sook at the 30V 2.8L Probably pretty similar as far as the basics go. The main advantage is low end torque. The 30V is no monster, but it is a bit better than the 12V.

I'm going to look at a 96 cabriolet tomorrow, going up for auction. Appears
the timing belt let go. From the pictures it appears straight and complete
and interior in good shape. How do the auto trans hold up? I have a 96 A6q
in my driveway with 181k miles and it drives perfect, shift great. How about
the roof mechanical? I don't know if it has a power roof or manual roof. It
is green with black roof and light tan leather. If I get this I'll have to
give up my 96 A6q or my 93 S4. There may be a 96 A6q on the marketplace
soon!
TIA
