Thinking of purchasing an A6

Welcome to the list, Ross!
Here's my opinion on late model A6 Audi's...
Depends what your "end game" is Ross. If you plan to buy a low
mileage/well cared for car and drive it for a couple of years and then
dump it you will really enjoy the A6. But if you buy a high mileage car
or plan to keep the car long term then they can get very expensive to
maintain. Here in the states (at least where I'm at) the market for
used A6s is very soft.
One of the partners where I work just traded in his 2000 A6 2.8 q
(126,000 miles) and the dealer only gave him $6800 US. He loved the car
but instead of just "nickel and dime'ing" him, it started to "$100
dollar bill" him. The air bag light came on, he could never get the
check-engine light to stay out for more that a couple of weeks, the
in-dash navigation screen was losing pixels, the passenger window was
starting to bind and so on.
It's sad, Audi has some of the best technology out there, but their long
term gizmo reliability is really poor (IMO). So unless I know someone
is a serious car geek who can put-up with a high maintenance car I don't
recommend buying an Audi. :)
From what I've heard, if you think Audi's are expensive to fix, BMWs
are even worse. Although I have no first-hand experience to back this
up... YMMV. :)
