Need exhaust system advice

1988 5000q, non turbo

The car still has the original exhaust system in it. Its developed a leak at
the middle muffler.
I've had bad experiences with replacement exhaust systems before. They dont
last very long before rusting out.

I was considering making an exhaust system using stainless steel tubing. But
I'm not sure what to use for the middle resonator, muffler and the end
muffler.
The aftermarket parts dont show a middle two part resonator/muffler. They
only show a one unit muffler.
I have had some bad experiences when using non original exhaust parts. My
truck had a hell of a resonance at 50 mph that drove me crazy. I dont want
the same thing with the 5kq.

I'm tempted to take my exhaust to a welding guy and have him weld in a
stainless patch over the exhaust leak.

The archives dont have anything useful on exhaust systems. I'm not
interested in racing exhaust systems that sound "cool". I want a quiet
system like the original system.

I also need some info on a replacement 3 hole exhaust flange for the
connection to the catalytic converter. The standard commercial split flanges
rust out after a year or two. I'm looking for something better. I once saw a
nice machined flange that had half lapped joints at the mounting holes. And
it was a beefy unit also. I cannot locate this flange on the internet. Maybe
some lister knows what I'm talking about.
