$40 -- $28 oil filters?

Castrol syntek is fully synthetic, and quite good.
However, Mobil1 has substantially better numbers, at least to my eyes.
Note that if you really want to be anal, none of the Mobil1 nor the
Castrol syntk (nor GTX) that you buy in the supermarket meets ACEA
specs nor VW502 oil requirements. Syntek 5W40 and M1 0W40 do.
All that said, I've run M1 5W30 in a substantially more demanding vw
application - the S4 biturbo, with wonderful results.
Not tom mention with $6 filters :-)
I'm still mystified as to what makes this 4.2 filter so darned special
- and/or necessary. But that may be anther audi mystery.
