No heat in my 5ktq

An old friend of mine used to remind me to "Test! Don't Guess"
On my son's 85 5kt the heater blower would quit intermittently or would not
work at all some trips. Seemed typical of the blower motor failing so I
picked up a used one from Pick-N-Pull for cheap. It was not great but it
worked and the brushes had some life left. I pulled the blower housing loose
enough to get the blower motor out (cracked the housing). Pulled out the old
blower and looked it over, it was in better shape that the used one I had. I
tested it worked every time !!
After I reassembled everything (duct taping the cracked housing) I traced to
problem to a bad temperature switch in the heater hose. It cuts off the
blower until the water temperature comes up some, to prevent the cold blast
of air on a cold morning. I jumpered the 2 wires together and never had a
blower problem again.
Check the simple stuff before diving into a big repair even if it is a
common failure item.
take care
Jim

Subject: No heat in my 5ktq

Hi,

There was no heat in my 1988 5ktq today. I hear no fan(s) blowing and
selecting the different modes doesn't cause anything to happen. It seems as
though a fuse or relay are bad. The system ran fine only 1 day ago.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks

Mike
