hood will not open

Hello group,
I have a power steering fluid leak, and today I went
to open the hood to add fluid, and nothing happened. 
The handle in the car is still attached to the cable,
and there is a clunking sound coming from the front of
the car where it should realease the hood.

I have a 80 mile trip tomorrow, and was wondering if
anyone knows how to open the hood, or what I can do to
fix it.
