Welding cable is in fact a finer strand count than any of the battery
cables I've ever found at any FLAPS, so yeah, it's better.

But of course then you gotta find a way to put terminals on it.  I
prefer wranglernw.com

I've run some 2/0 in another vehicle (expecting larger draw than an
Audi would ever produce, thus the 2/0, altho it's still overkill...it
was cheap at the time) with rear mounted battery for many years now.

Since we're speaking of sizes larger than 10ga, it's technically cable,
not wire ;)

Wouldn't welding cable more than suffice?  'Round here you can get it
fairly
cheap by the foot at places like Princess Auto or some farm supply
stores -
just add your own ends.
