Just thought i would share with folks a little how to do.

It is possible and easy actually to do this job without removing the pas pump, all you need is 1/4 in sq drive sockets and some extensions and a knuckle joint (taped up to stop it moving around too much), just then need to carefully pry out the old stat and away you go.

Bleeding the heater is another matter, i learnt that you don't have to have the bleeder screw actually out of the hose just enough to let the air and little coolant out, do we hear vesuvius, oh yes and hot coolant all over my arm.

Thanks to everyone for the heads up on this job especially where the heater bleeder is, would never have found that. Car is now running at just below 90degs.
