Alcantara Fabric Source

To all,
I have done this same thing for the list a few years back, you can get the
staff at an upholstery warehouse in San Diego (that I know of), and the
material is popular with some high end furniture upholsters (that is what I
am told!).
If Alex is not able to get it, let me know and I can check at my own source,
I used to have a whole bag of samples that I would regularly send to listers
(on loan), but I don't recall if I still have it.
Another little piece of info:
Last time when I used the Alcantara material I also put in the seat a 3 inch
layer of memory foam, the seats were the BEST I ever had and I will never
forgive myself for selling them in favor of a set of V8 leather seats.
I also put in a layer (had it put in!); a layer of memory foam in the
leather seats but it does not work as good as using the Alcantara material.
The leather is too stiff.
You all take care now and have a great new year,
Avi

Subject: Alcantara Fabric Source
FYI to listers with alcantara trim interiors:
Thanks to Louis-Alain Richard, who responded to my post about cleaning
alcantara a while back, I have spoken to the only U.S. distributor for
alcantara fabric (manufactured in Italy) about buying some to reupholster my
seats. It's not cheap -- $90/yard x 55" wide, but that should be enough to
reupholster a driver's seat or a few door panels with frays or stains, etc.
I've got a grungy stain on the rear bench that won't come out completely
(probably from a battery change by one of the infamous Monkey Lads.) He's
sending me a few samples of the fabric in tan and cream colors (says there
are 18 colors available for the automotive-grade Alcantara) and if any of
them are a close match for the inserts in my '87 5KCSTQ, I'm going to buy
some.
I was thinking that some listers may want to join up with me to make a group
purchase in various colors. Once I get the samples in the next few days,
I'll take some photos, etc. In the meantime, let me know if you'd be
interested, and here are the links:
